In 2019 we went to Dahab for a diving holiday with our youngest son. We did our AOW over there and one of the training dives was a the Blue Whole. Super excited as we heart already so much about it.

Blue Hole is situated North of Dahab, Egypt.

We did the Blue Hole as a dive of our AOW course. We started at The Canyon for our deep dive and went then to the Blue Hole for our drift dive.

There are more blue holes in the world you can dive, but this is far the most dangerous one. Well.. for those we go behond their limits. You can dive the Blue Hole as a AOW diver and always with a guide. Our son also went with us, but did not go as deep and followed us. But he also had the experience of going over the edge of the blue hole. The water is very clear, so you can see a lot. We just saw recently a documentary on Netflix where they want to find out who so many, mostly guys, died here. It is interesting to see this before you go.

As our first dive side of the day, the Canyon is not far away from the Blue Hole we drive on the back of the pickup already in our dive suit to the stop place. It is very busy (even beginning of March) as it is such a famous place. Also a lot of snorkelers are trying to get into the water. We get a good briefing what we have to do. You can jump into the water nearby where you put your gear on. But… as it is so busy, also with snorkelers you have to descent immediately to 26 meters where there is an arch. You pass then on the outside of the Hole before you will enter it. Inside the hole there is also an arch. That is only for technical divers and not for recreational divers. It looks nearby but seems to be at 60 meters deep. The reason people die there is that they think that they can make it and get out of air or get pushed to the bottom of the Hole at 100 meters. I did not know all of that before we went and maybe that was better too. Haha.

I would definitely want to do this dive ones more. Now we were more nervous, not knowing what to expect and aslo our son has Junior AOW, so could go deeper as well.

If you stay in Dahab, you certainly should go the the Canyon combined with the Blue Hole.
